In the past, adjustable beds were found almost exclusively in places like hospitals. But now, more and more people are opting to use them at home. If you’re among them, you might be wondering about the top adjustable bed frame brands. What are they—and will buying one of these highly rated models yield a noticeable improvement in your sleep?
Here, we’ll cover all that and more. After reading this article, you’ll know what to look for when shopping for adjustable bed frames and the best options to choose from.
The Top Adjustable Bed Frame Brands: 30-Second Summary
Short on time? This article examines the top adjustable bed frame brands across a number of key categories, like consumer ratings and health benefits, and then ranks them from best to worst. If you’re simply looking for the best of the best, here’s a 30-second summary of the top three options we reviewed:
- The Amerisleep Adjustable Bed Package is our Editor’s Pick and comes with an amerisleep mattress of your choice. The adjustable base has a range of impressive features like pillow-tilt articulation, fully-adjustable dual-body massage, and a capacitive-touch remote.
- Tempurpedic has three adjustable bases under the Tempur-Ergo brand. They tied Amerisleep in the durability and warranty category, and came in slightly behind them in customer reviews and health benefits, putting them second overall in our rankings. The biggest drawback is that Tempur-Ergo bases have some of the highest prices when you compare them with other adjustable bed frames that offer similar features. So these offerings might not be the best value.
- Sleep Comfort offers their own Classic model and two options from Leggett and Platt. The most concerning thing was that they did not publicly publish their prices, which could potentially make it hard for shoppers to compare prices and get a good deal. The bed frames themselves offered a decent set of features though—enough to put them third in the ratings.
Read the rest of this guide to understand our rating process and see the complete evaluations for these three bed frames. Plus, discover the other models we reviewed that didn’t make it into the top three—and find out why.
The Benefits of Adjustable Bed Frames
If adjustable bed frames are new to you, you might be wondering why someone would buy a product like this to begin with. Unlike traditional frames, adjustable bed frames can be raised or lowered. This allows users to raise or lower their upper body or legs, which can relieve pressure on the back and ease pain. The flexibility is also known for offering relief from symptoms related to conditions like:
- Sleep apnea.
- Acid reflux.
- Snoring and breathing difficulties.
In short, adjustable beds can help some people get a more comfortable night’s sleep. These types of frames can also make it easier for older adults or those with mobility issues to safely and comfortably climb out of bed. That can help users maintain a greater level of independence.
And these specialized frames don’t have to have a “medical” or “hospital” feel to them. More and more, manufacturers are offering adjustable beds that look much like their conventional counterparts. So they’ll fit seamlessly into your bedroom without disrupting your décor.
Comparing the Top Adjustable Bed Frames
Adjustable beds continue to grow in popularity as more people become aware of the benefits and convenience they offer. For many, they represent the pinnacle in bedroom comfort. But not all adjustable models are the same. Each brand offers different features that affect value and quality, so it’s important to learn about your options.
Recently, we looked at at the best mattresses of 2018. And since we see a lot of questions about adjustable bases, we decided to do that same thing for adjustable beds as well. Here, we’ll look at the top five adjustable frame brands and see how they compare.
Adjustable bases receive high customer satisfaction ratings in general. Considering that they offer the ability to raise and lower your head and feet, as well as massage functions and other features, this might not come as much surprise. Still, not all adjustable bed frames rate equally with consumers, and the features and pricing can vary quite a bit.
Beds from Costco, Amerisleep and more are compared side by side in this review, so you can see how they rank in a number of important categories. After all, buying an adjustable bed is a big purchase, so it’s a good idea to enter the marketplace informed and be aware of the most common issues.

Adjustable Bed Frame Brands: Our Review
The Scoring Process
We looked at five main dimensions in our rating system: customer reviews, durability features, price, health-related features, and warranty. Each category was ranked on a scale of 1-5, with 5 being highest.
Here’s a brief overview of the categories we looked at.
- Consumer Ratings – We analyzed third-party reviews via manufacturer and retailer websites, blog, and other review sources.
- Price – We compared features versus retail prices. Brands that publish their prices ranked higher, since brands that don’t make their prices public may tend to price gouge, overcharging consumers and subjecting them to high-pressure tactics.
- Health Benefits – We analyzed the features and consumer reports of health benefits. These include relief from symptoms of sleep apnea, edema, acid reflux, breathing difficulties, snoring, fibromyalgia, muscle pain, back/shoulder/neck pain, and others. Naturally, beds that offer a wider range of positioning functions tended to rank higher here.
- Durability – We analyzed construction details (like electronics, mechanical parts, and materials) as well as longevity reports from consumers. Those with quality control certifications like UL listing and ISO-9001 certification ranked higher.
- Warranty – We compared warranty length, with greater focus placed on full coverage terms. Twenty-year and even lifetime warranties are fairly common, but critical components like the electrical parts and motors may only have 1-5 years of coverage. Brands with longer full warranties and most transparent policies ranked highest.

The Top Adjustable Bed Frame Brand: Amerisleep
Amerisleep – 4.7/5
Here’s a brand that offers great health benefits along with prices that make sense. This was the top ranking brand overall. Amerisleep offers one adjustable base: their signature Amerisleep Adjustable Bed. Reviews averaged at 4.7/5, with over 100 third-party verified reviews.
The manufacturer’s website publishes their prices online, and the costs are in line with the beds features—making this adjustable frame a great value. Many customers noted that they experienced an improvement in their health, which they attributed to features like massage and the ability to customize positions. The frame also has a proprietary “Zero-Gravity” setting. It raises your feet and elevates your upper body into a position that helps remove tension from the lower back. This is an important asset, since 81% of consumers say that targeted lower back support is important for them when shopping for a mattress.
The Amerisleep Adjustable Bed also has several innovations to make sure your mattress stays comfortably in place even as the base changes angles.
- The MicroHook™ retention system creates gentle friction with the bottom of the mattress so that it doesn’t slide down, even when the base is at its steepest angle.
- Wallhugger® engineering helps keep your nightstand close even with the bed adjusted all the way up. Unlike other bases that have a tendency to push sleepers away from the wall when they are angled up, Wallhugger® engineering actually pulls the mattress back as it raises up. This keeps your body in the same place no matter how you choose to position your base, ensuring you can reach everything next to your bed at all times.
- Modern features like USB ports to charge your phone, a remote stand for easy access to control the bed, and under-bed lighting raise it above some of the more clinical looking brands.
Topping it all off, the Amerisleep Adjustable Bed provides a 20-year limited warranty, which keeps customers adequately covered. The first year covers parts and labor and the next two years cover parts only. The remaining years cover any steel and mechanical base parts found to be defective.
The Other Adjustable Beds of Note
#2) Tempurpedic – 4.1
Tempurpedic features three primary adjustable frames under the Tempur-Ergo name: the Premiere, the Plus and the Grand. The brand came in second, ranking just behind Amerisleep in the comparison. Customer ratings averaged 4.5/5, and Tempurpedic’s offerings also received 4’s for durability and health benefits. Both of the bases have a range of features and performance specifications.
However, points were lost on price for costs higher than average compared to features. What accounts for the heftier price tag? Tempurpedic is well known as a result of their extensive advertising. That kind of publicity costs money, and typically results in higher product prices for customers.
Warranties are fair with the Tempurpedic adjustable bed lines. The Premiere and Grand come with 5-year full coverage and lifetime limited warranties. With the Plus, the warranty is 3-years full coverage with an additional 2-year warranty on parts only. The frame of the Plus has a 25-year limited warranty running concurrently.
#3) Classic Brands – 3.9/5
Though the name sounds like it has been around for some time, Classic Brands is a fairly new competitor in the adjustable bed category. We ranked them at number three because they seemed to have some of the new features that accompany newer adjustable beds, but the brand does not quite commit to them.
These mechanical bases seems to fair well in reviews gaining an average of 4.3 out of 5 across all of their models. Most reviews cited issues with quality especially calling out the remote and legs. Some reviewers that didn’t have issues with the build quality noted that they appreciated the price point. While we can’t be certain, the inconsistency in reviewers’ expereinces points to Quality control issues that you may want to be wary of when purhcaisng this adjustable bed.
#4) Costco – 3.5/5
Costco carries two different models: the Leggett and Platt S-Cape and a base from the Sleep Science brand. On average, we found customer ratings to be around 4.0/5 and reporting a favorable level of health benefits, as well as a good range of basic features available in both models.
Warranty terms varied across the models, with some offering more transparency than others. Full coverage periods are 1-year and parts range from 2-5 years. Customers also like Costco’s liberal return policy.
Price, especially on the mattress-adjustable packages, comes in on the high side. However, Costco does publish all of its prices online, making it easy for customers to compare while shopping. One thing to be aware of: If you’re not a Costco member, you’ll pay a 5% surcharge above the listed price.
#5) Golden Rest -2.8/5
Golden Rest offers five lines of adjustable frames with multiple models in each line: Supernal, Companion, Floor Hugger, Night Rider and Valiant. Each line offers several models with various features, so there’s a good amount of flexibility. However, the customer reviews suggest that more choice doesn’t always guarantee a better product.
The adjustable beds scored in average ranges on all aspects we researched, with 3.0/5 in every category. In general, the ratings seem mixed: Many people found health benefits in the beds, but limited longevity and higher prices were seen as high negatives. The look of the bases was also a downside for some buyers, who felt that the appearance looked too similar to something you might find in a hospital.
Golden Rest’s warranty coverage last 1 year for adjustable bases. That’s average for full coverage but far below average for prorated coverage, which typically extends around 20 years.
Recap: Reviews for Adjustable Beds
The biggest influences in our adjustable bed comparison and people’s reviews appear to be transparency and value. Simply put, consumers want to get what they are expecting based on claims made by a brand or by a showroom salesperson. As such, models that offered little information or aren’t fully transparent on their pricing and warranties ranked lower in consumer ratings and in our comparison. (Which is completely understandable, don’t you think?)
Getting the Best Deal
It goes without saying the most people want to get a good price relative to the features and durability of their adjustable bed. And thankfully, online shopping makes this easier than ever by allowing buyers to compare pricing and features for themselves, versus having to rely on salespeople for information. As such, brands that offer stronger values are faring better than brands sticking to outdated models with high markups and high-pressure sales.
Increasingly, people are also preferring adjustable beds with designs that look like comfortable home furniture, not something you’d find in a hospital. And who can blame them? Many models have a cold, clinical feel that just doesn’t work for most shoppers today.
Unsurprisingly, the top-rated bed frames in our comparison have a more modern look, with upholstered sides and concealed support beams. Most also function within wood frames or with headboards and footboards, helping them blend seamlessly into a customer’s bedroom décor.
As with any big purchase, keep your budget front and center when shopping for adjustable bed frames. You can invest in your health without going broke. So pick a number that works for you—and stick to your guns. There are plenty of great deals to be found if you’re willing to comparison shop, and retailers often offer huge discounts near holidays like President’s Day, Memorial Day, and Labor Day. If you don’t see an option in your budget that you like, just wait until the next big sale and take another look.
Also, remember that adjustable beds are often covered by Medicare and other health insurance plans. So it’s worth talking with your provider about getting an adjustable bed and following their instructions to make sure you buy a product that’s covered. Here is what Medicare’s own website says about it:
Medicare will only cover your durable medical equipment (DME) if your doctors and DME suppliers are enrolled in Medicare. Doctors and suppliers have to meet strict standards to enroll and stay enrolled in Medicare. If your doctors or suppliers aren’t enrolled, Medicare won’t pay the claims submitted by them. It’s also important to ask your suppliers if they participate in Medicare before you get DME. If suppliers are participating suppliers, they must accept assignment. If suppliers are enrolled in Medicare but aren’t “participating,” they may choose not to accept assignment. If suppliers don’t accept assignment, there’s no limit on the amount they can charge you.
Finding out if some or all of your adjustable bed costs are covered is a small amount of trouble up front, but it can save you from having to deal with a big headache later on. Find out if your situation will allow for it. If not, don’t be discouraged, there are many adjustables available at a variety of different prices.
Don’t Forget the Most Important Accessory for Adjustable Beds
This review did a deep dive into adjustable bed frames, but it didn’t touch on mattress components. That’s another important thing to factor, since the right mattress can play a big role in contributing to your overall comfort and satisfaction. After all, even the best adjustable bed in the world won’t feel great if you’re sleeping on the wrong mattress!
Most adjustable beds are designed to pair with a mattress of your choosing. (However, a couple of brands do make adjustable beds with their mattresses already attached. Check ahead of time before handing over your credit card so you’re not in for a surprise when your new bed frame arrives.) Either way, it’s essential to make sure the mattress you pick works on the adjustable bed model that you ultimately end up purchasing. Some mattresses, like innerspring mattresses, may not bend as you adjust the angles of the bed frame’s head and foot. In general, memory foam models tend to be a better choice. And there’s a good chance that they’ll offer more of the comfort and support you’re looking for.
If you’re on the hunt for a mattress to go with your new adjustable frame, our recommendation is Amerisleep’s AS3. This is the brand’s medium-firm model, and it’s designed to offer support for a range of sleepers. Just like their adjustable bed frames use the latest technology, their mattresses are also revolutionary for the comfort features they include. And if you prefer a firmer or softer feel to your mattress, you can look at another one of their five firmness levels.
Learn more about why the Amerisleep AS3 is our pick for #1 overall mattress.
Of course, it’s best to go with the model that will work for you. If you decide to purchase another option instead, just ask the retailer if your mattress and adjustable bed frame are compatible. If they are, you’re in the clear, and have nights of sound sleeping ahead of you. If not, you’ll need to seek out a different mattress that’s compatible with your bed frame. Not sure where to find one? The retailer may be able to provide a list of options that will work, so just ask.
